Family Filmstrips

Explore the many features of all-in-one printer/scanner/copiers, such as reducing, enlarging, making multiple copies, and grouping photos on the scanner bed.  Learn how to make your own fabric sheets for printing, or use pretreated fabric sheets.  Bring photo prints from your own collection to print for your filmstrip quilt.  Cyndy will bring several printers for your use.  You can choose to sew or fuse your quilt together. The little sample quilt with many photos and the red quilt you will receive are fused; the black one with the old photos was sewn.

Bring your sewing machine OR you can use 1 ½ yards of fusible web such as Wonder Under instead of sewing the quilt together

You probably won't complete a quilt in class, but will get all your photos printed.

Photos:

Please note: Bring 4" x 6" photos already printed to class.

Search through your photo albums or boxes for approximately 26 to 30 - 4? x 6? photos (choose a variety of both horizontal and vertical formats) that fall into

  • spring, summer, fall, or winter categories

or

  • choose a theme of your own: a special vacation, a special birthday, a baby's first year.

Fabric needed:

  • 1-2 packages pretreated fabric sheets, such as Printed Treasures or EQ Printables

  • Batting: 20"x 22"

  • 1 yard fabric to frame the photos; not-too-busy darker colors work best

and, if fusing,

  • 1 and 1/2 yds. fusible web (such as Wonder Under)

Other supplies:

  • Sewing machine (if not fusing)

  • Permanent marker

  • 6" x 24" acrylic ruler, rotary cutter, and mat

  • Applique pressing sheet, or piece of tissue paper
