February Program
Speaker Laurel Anderson - The History of Applique. Ms. Anderson discusses the changes in styles and how they changed with the fortunes of our country. She will discuss the progression of appliqué methods and her personal search for the "perfect" appliqué technique.
Next Year's Board
There are still positions open for next year's board. They include President, Vice President, Parliamentarian, Membership (2 people), Programs / Workshops (2 people), Ways and Means (2 or 3 people), Community Relations / Outreach (2 or 3 people), and Hospitality (2 more needed to join the 1 person whose already signed on). Position responsibilities are posted in this month's Newsletter.
This is your guild, please consider volunteering for one of these positions. It's a great way to meet other members and have fun. Perhaps a group of you could sign up together. Contact this year's Parliamentarian if you are interested.
Hugs for Hearts Blocks
We need more heart blocks for our Hugs Bank. The blocks you make will be used to create quilts to bring comfort to guild members who have suffered a grave loss or are facing daunting challenges. Please help us out by making a 6.5" blocks featuring a heart on a white or white-on-white background. The heart can be fashioned any which way you wish - pieced, appliqued, embroidered, or?
Block of the Month
This month please make a block for the Hugs Bank rather than a BOM. January's blue & white block is due this month for our BOM drawing. The shoe block drawing has been postponed until March.
If you finish a BOM from a previous month - by all means, bring it in. We'll pass it on to that month's winner.
Outreach
To date you've made 14 preemie quilts, 52 regular quilts and 139 pillow cases which will be donated to charitable organizations. Please keep up the good work and we're sure to reach our goal!
Applique Workshop
The upcoming applique workshop is full. Although we have a waiting list, the class will also be offered at Picket Fence on March 12.
