December 2009 - Guild News Bits

Holiday Party

The holiday party was a great success. Many thanks to hospitality chairs and their elves for creating the festive atmosphere and arranging for the yummy meal. The effort to mix up the groups paid off. Many appreciative comments were made regarding the opportunity to get to know fellow members better.

The Challenge Quilt show proved yet again what a creative bunch our guild is composed of. Participants displayed a wide variety of quilts artfully using the 2 fabrics and incorporating the themes "Joyful" and "Recycled" into their works. I think that we were all inspired by their creativity.

The Block of the Month show displayed 4 quilts made by previous Block of the Month winners. It was a fun trip down memory lane for many as people recalled when the various blocks were crafted and whether the quilts included any of their blocks.

Members generously brought baby shower gifts for donation to the Pregnancy Resource Center & Family Services Agency. Those gifts will help needy pregnant and new mothers. Thanks to everyone for giving in the true spirit of the season!

Community Outreach

Thanks to the 16 attendees of the November 2 Quilt-A-Thon. During the day, we had a lot of fun, got to know each other better and accomplished a great deal. We sewed on labels, pieced quilts, quilted quilts, basted quilts and completed bindings. Your work brought us that much closer to our goal of 100 quilts with 63 completed children's and adult quilts.

If someone would like the opportunity to practice free motion quilting, we have quite a few quilts with batting and backing ready for your creativity. Just contact the Community Outreach committee.

Senior Fair

Congratulations to all for the most successful Senior Fair yet! We received raves for the quilt show, plaudits for the variety of items inour boutique, and the most sales revenue in the 5 or 6 years we've sold there. "Quality" was just one of the adjectives used to describe our products and presentation.

Quilts on Display at Aegis in Corte Madera

Holiday inspired quilts donated by our guild are currently displayed at the Corte Madera Aegis Retirement Living through January 31. Stop by and see our member's work.

Amish Abstraction Quilt Lecture at Tiburon Library

On Tuesday February 23, 2010, Kay Payne and local residents Faith and Stephen Brown will provide a presentation on the exhibition which is from the Brown collection. The presentation is free to the public and will be at 7:30 pm at the Tiburon Library.

Help Choose Next Year's Speakers

Would you like to assist with selecting next year's speakers? The Northern California Quilt Council (NCQC) Meet the Teachers event is your chance to see brief presentations from a variety of artists across the textile art disciplines. The event is January 21 10:00 - 12:00 in Pleasanton. Carpool with a fellow guild member and make a day of it! Contact the Programs chair if you are interested.
